A pig

Sketch #18

Sketch #18

Today’s sketch is a pig from photo reference. I think it turned out pretty good. Obviously it could be a lot more detailed, but I think I nailed the proportions pretty well.

This was also a digital sketch, this time using my wacom tablet and the GIMP.

A boat

Sketch #13

Here’s a tall ship. The sketch is not very good. I don’t much to say about it. Photo reference.

A guitar

Sketch #11

Sketch #11

Today I’m employing a technique known as “negative space” to draw a Gibson Les Paul electric guitar. To be honest I think I ended up flattening the perspective on this one. Probably should had picked something with more depth. Not that it’s perfect otherwise.

Gradius

Sketch #10

Sketch #10

Today, two sketches. They’re related though. The first one, on the left, is a moai head. I decided that alone would be too simple, so as a bonus, on the right, Vic Viper 2, the ship from Gradius 2. Picking them was inspired by watching Andrés Delikat’s tool-assisted speedrun of Gradius.

I’m pretty happy with both of these. The ship lacks a bunch of little details, but it looks pretty decent anyways.

An eagle

Sketch #9

Sketch #9

So, I missed a couple of days of sketching. I gotta make that up somehow, but here’s Monday’s sketch (late, I know). It’s a bald eagle from photo reference. I should probably start drawing from life too, although photos are good practice.

I think the main problem with this eagle is that it should be wider. Also perhaps the top of the head should be flatter. Also it’s hard to make it look feathery, so I didn’t really try that hard. I feel like that’s the sort of detail I’m just not very interested in attempting to produce at this point.

Cats

Sketch #6

Sketch #7

So I’m behind my schedule as it’s way past midnight already. I was kinda busy today and forgot to do the sketch in time. So now I’m kinda tired and I can’t really seem to produce a proper sketch. So I was going to draw a kitten from photo reference as usual, and I started drawing its face in the middle of the page there. It just wasn’t looking right though. Then I figured maybe it would help if I drew some of the patterns in the fur, but it ended up just looking weird. So then I started another sketch, but that didn’t go so well either, so in lieu of a proper sketch, I drew some even sloppier cats around the original unfinished sketch.

I need to go get some sleep now.

A car

Sketch #5

Sketch #5

I attempted to draw a car this time. It’s a Tesla Roadster, drawn from photo reference once again. I’m decently happy with it, apart from the tires, which look just terrible. Also I made the interior too small, but I don’t think that ruins the picture.

More doggies!

Sketch #4.1

Sketch #4.1

Only today, three dogs for the price of one! The one on the left is a more accurate rendition of the dog in the original photo. The front is almost perfect apart from the nose, but I made the body a little too long and the back got rotated a few degrees clockwise. Individual parts seem to be of the right size though, and the dog looks like an adult now, unlike my first sketch which looked more like a puppy.

The dog on the right ist just a little doodle. A stylized version of the dog I drew just for fun. :-)

A dog

Sketch #4

Sketch #4

A white husky dog drawn from photo reference. I seem to have chopped his/her neck short. I noticed that long before finishing but I had no room on the paper to fix it. Perhaps I should had started over at that point? Perhaps I should be drawing smaller in order to have room for mistakes. Also I think the grey part on the right ear is probably too big. Looks strange.

A fish

Sketch #3

Sketch #3

A cute fishie fish. I decided not to do too much shading on this one and concentrate on the lines and shapes. Used a photo reference once again.
